FROM SURVIVAL TO SUCCESS: THE IRON DOG TO XOCIAL GONG STORY
I didn't start in a boardroom. I started on the streets. My journey from former gang member to business owner wasn't a straight line — it was a series of adaptations, reinventions, and refusing to quit when the world said I should.
The Beginning: Choosing A Different Path
In 2007, I quit my last job and made a promise to myself: I would never work for someone else again. I launched Iron Dog Fitness as a mobile personal trainer with no budget, no brand, and no visibility. Just a dream and a willingness to outwork everyone else.

But reality hit hard. Beyond the gyms where I worked and my inner circle, no one knew who I was. I had to figure out how to survive in a world that didn't know I existed. I had to find a way to become known as the go-to person they should be doing business with, and I had to do it on a zero-dollar budget.
2008
The First Test
Then the 2008 economic crisis hit. Just as I was getting off the ground, the country fell apart. Clients canceled left and right — job losses, pay cuts, fear. I had a choice: give up or get creative.
I chose to learn. I discovered that:
- Facebook creates awareness
- LinkedIn builds trust
- Newsletters keep you top of mind
I built my brand around these pillars, transforming from unknown to in-demand. Along the way, I volunteered countless hours helping others do the same.
One of my proudest moments? Becoming the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach for the LAPD Centurions Football team. I went from running from the cops to running with them. It was humbling, surreal, and proof that reinvention is always possible. I also coached at Salesian HS and worked with local chambers of commerce, using newsletters and outreach to revive participation and drive real engagement. One councilmember even asked for my help with his mayoral campaign, citing the transformation I sparked in his local chamber. That's when I realized: I wasn't just promoting myself — I was building a repeatable system.
2020
The Second Test
Then COVID-19 hit, and everything I built crumbled overnight. But I'd been here before. In 2008, I learned that survival requires adaptability. So I paused, regrouped, and pivoted.
I drove for Uber, Amazon Flex, DoorDash — whatever it took. The most rewarding part? Delivering food to families in need through Amazon's partnership with the LA Food Bank. It reminded me why I do this work: to serve, to connect, to lift others up.
During those long drives, I reflected on what I wanted to build next. I thought about every marketer I'd met over the years — the ones who helped businesses grow but never specialized in connecting them with decision-makers on LinkedIn. That's when Xocial Gong LLC was born.
